Regular auto services always include an oil change. Oil changes are essential to the life span of your motor and engine. Mileage, weather, cleanliness, etc. effects the lifeblood of an engine. Oil lubricates and cleans the moving parts of a vehicle in order to circulate properly. Over time and repeated exposure to cold starts, short trips, and engine heat, causes the oil to get dirty, become thicker, and lose its ability to prevent sludge and deposits from forming.
How Often You Should Change Your Oil
Your oil should be changed as frequently as your vehicle manufacturer recommends. This information can be found in the owner’s user manual. Some vehicles require an oil change every 5,000 miles and other vehicles recommend every 10,000 miles. Pugh’s Tire and Service Centers recommends changing your oil more frequently such as every 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first. Also, take into consideration how much stop-and-go driving and short trips your vehicle is used for. This could increase the number of oil changes needed throughout the year. Please refer to your owner’s manual for more information.
The Right Oil for Your Car
There are two main types of motor oil which are synthetic and conventional. Conventional oil is used in most vehicles and should be changed at least twice a year. Synthetic oil is not required or even recommended for all vehicles. In fact, synthetic oil is recommended for high-tech engines for longer-lasting performance.
