There is no doubt that a vehicle is an investment, and most would agree that keeping up with routine maintenance is what keeps a vehicle running smoothly for years to come. There are several maintenance components drivers need to remember and a variety of types of services available. Staying on top of and knowing the maintenance history of your vehicle can save you time and money on problems that could arise from neglect down the road. Washington tire shop, Pugh’s Tire & Service Center, is here to provide you with this easy-to-follow guide of recommended car maintenance by mileage for keeping your vehicle cruising for years to come.
Every 3,000 to 5,000 Miles
It is recommended by the professionals at Pugh’s Tire & Service Centers that the oil and oil filter should be changed every 3,000 - 5,000 miles. This reduces engine wear and keeps your vehicle’s oil free from particles. It is important to keep track of when your vehicle is due for an oil change, especially if your indicator light is faulty. By looking in your owner's manual or speaking with one of the mechanics at Pugh’s Tire & Service Centers, you will be able to measure the interval of your oil changes and filters. Washington tire shop, Pugh’s Tire & Service Center, also encourages drivers to have their tires rotated and balanced every 3,000 - 5,000 miles to even out wear and extend the lifespan of your tires. Furthermore, inspection of the transmission fluid level, coolant, power steering fluid, windshield washer fluid and wipers, tires, backup camera and all exterior lights is also encouraged.
Every 15,000 to 20,000 Miles
Air filters should be replaced every 15,000 miles as well as having your brake pads inspected and your rotors turned. Every 20,000 miles, inspect the battery and coolant.
Every 25,000 to 35,000 Miles
Once your vehicle hits the 30,000 milestone, there are several systems Washington tire shop, Pugh’s Tire & Service Center recommends you have inspected and replaced, in what we call a “tune up.” Tune-ups include:
- Replace the fuel filter and air filter
- Have the radiator coolant inspected and the cooling system flushed.
- Inspect all belts and hoses for cracking
- Have all suspension components inspected
- Get the air conditioning system tested and recharged
- Have the power steering fluid drained, flushed, and replaced
- Check the remaining tread life left on your tires and replace in sets, if needed
Inspect and replace the battery every 35,000 miles in your vehicle, as needed.
Every 40,000 to 50,000 Miles
Every 40,000 miles, replace the spark plugs and spark plug wires, and inspect the ignition system and suspension. These checks are recommended again at 45,000 miles and 50,000 miles. At the 50,000 milestone, if you have an automatic transmission, have the transmission fluid drained and replaced, as well as the transmission filter. For manual transmission vehicles, have the transmission differentials drained, cleaned, and refilled with new fluid. Washington tire shop, Pugh’s Tire & Service Center also recommends to have your battery inspected for signs of leakage, and have it tested to make sure it is still recharging.
Every 60,000 Miles
Refer back to the 30,000 miles and less maintenance and inspection recommendations and have each one performed. Replace brake pads and brake fluid, radiator hoses, coolant, power steering fluid, and timing belt. Inspect the HVAC, suspension components, and tires as well, and replace as needed.
Every 100,000 Miles
At this point, you’ll want to have all of the above services performed, along with replacing spark plugs and spark plug wires if they have not been previously replaced.
